This surpasses your typical Italian restaurant; you even might struggle to find its equal in Italy itself. Xemei means ‘twins’ in the Venetian dialect, and it’s held by the extraordinary Colombo brother chefs. It retains the soul of a ‘trattoria’ and displays the quality of a star restaurant, but holds itself to the standards of a new generation, both in design and in sourcing the products. Try their famous Squid Ink Spaghetti on their patio, and indulge in the Italian art of sweet idleness.

Pez Vela serves some of the best paella in Barcelona. It’s not really a surprise: like its Tragaluz siblings, it’s beautifully designed and serves high-quality products. Pez Vela, however, is also right on the beach, and you know what that means – it cooks with fresh catch of the day, ensuring that its menu is always just what you’re looking for. Along with the weather, or a sunset over the water…once you sit under the palm trees and try the squid, shrimp, and clam paella, you might not talk about anything else.

The aptly named Artte restaurant is a fulcrum for Barcelona creatives. Menu-wise, they strive to be original as they are healthy, and its beautifully designed space lends itself to being a restaurant, a bar, and an art space. This versatile locale features a dynamic event calendar, and is open from morning until past midnight. This is your queue to sit back, eat delicious food surrounded by beautiful art, and enjoy life.

Lando has made a name for itself through its service and great food, not to mention its light and refreshing design. Situated in a converted and garage space, it has spared no comfort for its patrons: sit on HK Living Rotan and Tolix chairs, under an array of raw lightbulbs suspended at different lengths, truly giving the impression of dining under the night sky. Ever versatile, on Saturdays they transform into a brunch spot, still maintaining the Mediterranean quality and artful presentation of their locally sourced dishes.

Did you miss out on El Bulli, two-time winner of World’s Best Restaurant? We have great news: Tickets is waiting for you. Created by Albert, Ferran Adriá’s younger brother, Tickets maintains El Bulli’s inventiveness (it serves its signature liquid olives), but strives for even more: democratising haute cuisine and making it fun. Already awarded a Michelin star, its decor is surrealist and playful, and each dish is a miniature marvel. Just make sure to make reservations early – you won’t regret it!
